Alright, there's a very simple way to run the old patch when running the new patch. There were many files updated in the new patch. There were also many files added, so you cant play on any servers running the new patch with the old Tribes2.exe alone. But you can play on the old patch servers with the new patch installation by following these instructions. And yes, I know this has been discussed, but most do not know of it.
Here are the instructions:
1. (NEWLY ADDED) Make sure that you FIRST startup T2 before doing anything else and clicking "Launch", then "Settings", then click the "Game" button and make SURE that the "Skip Intro" is enabled. You cannot have the intro play on startup, because it was updated in the patch. If the intro isnt disabled, you will get a black screen.(thx Rodent)
2. Download the old Tribes2.exe here: Old Tribes Exe
3. Place it in your Tribes2/Gamedata folder. (this is vital it must be in the Gamedata folder or nothing will happen when you start it)
4. Right-click the "Tribesold.exe" you downloaded and placed in your gamedata folder and "Create Shortcut" or you can Create a Shortcut through the "Send to" menu and have it placed on your desktop. Either way its required to use a shortcut to run T2.
5. Then right-click the shortcut you made and click "Properties". Then add the command " -online" without the quotations on the end after the target line. it should look something like this:
C:\Dynamix\Tribes2\GameData\Tribesold.exe -online
Make sure there is a space between Tribesold.exe and -online. You can additionally add you login too, like this:
C:\Dynamix\Tribes2\GameData\Tribesold.exe -online -login NAME PASSWORD
Anyways, just keep in mind that this is for the people that are running the new patch. They can play on the old patch servers with those simple instructions. Btw, I promised Janus that I wouldnt flame anyone, so no flaming me please.
Btw, if you have a space anywhere in the target like this:
C:\Program Files\Tribes2\Gamedata\Tribesold.exe
Ya see how "Program Files" has a space, then you'll need to put quotations around the target like this:
"C:\Program Files\Tribes2\Gamedata\Tribesold.exe" -online
"C:\Program Files\Tribes2\Gamedata\Tribesold.exe" -online -login NAME PASSWORD
